Ingredients
Quantities are for 4 servings.
- 1 lb Ground beef (80/20)
- 4 each Burger buns
- 4 each Cheddar cheese slices
- 4 each Lettuce leaves
- 1 each Tomato, sliced
- 1/2 each Red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup Dill pickle chips
- 2 tbsp Ketchup
- 2 tbsp Yellow mustard
Instructions
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions (about 4 oz each) and gently shape into patties slightly wider than your buns — they'll shrink a bit as they cook. Press a shallow dimple into the center of each patty with your thumb so they cook up flat instead of doming. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat (or heat a grill to medium-high). Cook the patties 4-5 minutes on the first side without pressing down on them.
- Flip and cook 3-4 minutes more, until the internal temperature reaches 160°F on an instant-read thermometer. In the last minute, top each patty with a cheese slice and cover the pan loosely with a lid or foil to help it melt.
- While the burgers finish, lightly toast the buns, cut-side down, in a dry skillet or under the broiler for about 1 minute, until golden.
- Build each burger on the bottom bun with ketchup and mustard, the patty and melted cheese, then lettuce, tomato, red onion, and pickles. Top with the bun lid.
